Before joining RMIT University in 2007, Val worked at Monash and Murdoch Universities and University of Western Australia. Val is a full-time teacher in the School of GUSS and an active researcher. Val’s research is interdisciplinary and theoretically as well as policy-oriented; she is a proficient user of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Her research has focused on notions of ethnicity/race, identity, community and class. Val ‘s recent publications cover topics such as labour and residential integration of immigrants in Australia, especially those from non-Anglophone backgrounds; development of Australian multiculturalism; and urban diversity and homeownership in Australia.
