Two comparative corpora of naturally occurring conversations during social visits were collected to explore conversational strategies. It is intended that this research will contribute to the growing literature on French-Australian inter-cultural studies and strengthen understanding and relations between the two cultures. The project has so far identified the different forms of conversational humour used by the participants in the two corpora and proposed a new framework for the cross-cultural analysis of humour in interaction (Béal and Mullan 2013).
